The last time you saw this hat, it looked like this:
A day later it looked like this:
(That’s me somewhere under there.)
Somewhat under 10 minutes in hot water in my mom’s washing machine, the one with a low-water, high-agitation setting, produced this:
Pattern: Felt Hat AC-1 by Bev Galeskas, published by Fiber Trends
Yarn: about 1 skein Cascade Yarns Cascade 200, 100% wool, color 8393 (navy blue) held together with 2 skeins Koigu Rumba, 90% mohair, 10% nylon, color R318 (red/blue variegated)
Needles: US size 10.5
Size: adult
Started 5/9 and finished 5/12/2012
Cascade 220 was divine to work with as always. Rumba felt a little rough while I was knitting and softened after it felted. Holding the two yarns together used more hand muscles than I’m used to using in my knitting and my hands got tired but the project went so darn fast that I did not care.
Believe it or not, this is the less fuzzy version. It looked like a sodden Muppet when it came out of the washing machine. I let it dry and then went over it with my desk scissors, trimming back the fuzz.
He looks comfortable but it’s too warm for me yet. All I need now is for the weather to turn cold.

Funny! Someone on Ravelry knit a similar hat last week and after felting, it ended up a pot plant holder. Glad you had better luck. Isn’t felting just magic?

MmmYarn
It sure is! Although I ensured the magic by pulling the hat out of the washer every couple of minutes and trying it on, wet fuzz and all.
